Teeth Whitening 101
How is teeth whitening done?
First, your teeth are polished to remove plaque on the surface. Then, a barrier is placed along the gum line to protect the soft tissue from the solution. We use a specially concentrated hydrogen peroxide-based solution that has been proven safe and effective. The teeth are coated with this solution and left in place for 30-60 minutes and are cured with a special light that activates the solution.
Are there any side effects to teeth whitening?
Most people do not experience any side effects. Some people experience mild tooth sensitivity and/or soft tissue irritation, which can last a few hours after the procedure.
How long do whitening results typically last?
Results last up to 5 years for many people, sometimes longer. Soda, coffee, and nicotine tend to stain the teeth more than anything else, so it really depends on your situation.
How long will it take?
A typical appointment lasts 60-90 minutes from start to finish. However, it could be longer to achieve desired results.
Are the results immediate?
Yes. You will notice a difference before you leave our office.
Dp those over-the-counter teeth whitening strips work?
They do, but can cost more and take longer to be effective. It’s safer to have a dentist evaluate your teeth and gums first before trying teeth whitening, even if you plan to use an at-home product.
Can I just get my top or bottom teeth treated?
Absolutely! Most people opt to do top and bottom teeth, but we can do either the top or bottom if you would like.
