Porcelain Laminate Veneers

A dental veneer is a thin strip of durable material applied to the front of a tooth. Usually made of porcelain, veneers are custom fitted to your teeth to provide a tough, long-lasting shell. At Larrimore Family Dentistry, we use veneers for cosmetic dental work, specifically repairing chipped or discolored teeth.

Reasons To Get Dental Veneers

Like bonding, veneers are used for a variety of restorative needs. Veneers can cover and correct cracked, chipped, discolored, or misshapen teeth. They are also used to close gaps or straighten misaligned teeth. Finally, they can be used to enhance the appearance of your teeth, creating a bright, beautiful smile.

Veneers vs. Dental Bonding

Porcelain veneers and dental bonding are two options for cosmetic dental restorations. Depending on your teeth and your dental goals, we can recommend the right service to improve your smile.

What To Expect With Veneers

Creating dental veneers is a multi-step process, resulting in a pleasing, attractive smile.

During your first visit, the dentist will remove a small amount enamel from the front of your teeth, which gives enough space for the veneer. We will then make an impression of the teeth, which will be sent to the lab to make your permanent veneer. Before the end of the visit, we will place a temporary veneer on your teeth. You’ll also select the shading of your veneer from a standard color chart.

In between visits, your veneers will be crafted and shaped in the lab, much like a crown. This process can take several weeks. We schedule a follow up appointment one month from your first one, to give time for the veneers to be created.

During your second visit, the temporary veneer is removed, and the tooth is cleaned. The permanent veneer is then attached using strong adhesives. We then polish the veneer so that it matches the sheen of the rest of your teeth.

How Long Do Veneers Last?

The real benefit of porcelain veneers is their durability and long life. Unlike bonding, which lasts around 5 years, properly maintained veneers should last 10-15 years. Practicing good oral hygiene – including regular brushing and flossing – will extend the life of your veneers.
